June 1, 2022 Next Page Books, Cedar Rapids, IA. A copy of my book was left in this very co ol bookstore. Next time through, I will definitely visit again. This time, the owner had run an errand and was away from the store so I did not get to meet him, nor really get to know the place.  This store is in the New Bohemia neighborhood, across from the  NEWBO market. Prairie Lights Bookstore, Iowa City, Iowa   This is an amazing bookstore. I spent thirty minutes or so talking to Terry who has been at the store since ’93. Got a rundown on the history and growth of the place. What an amazing resource people like Terry are in indie stores like this. The variety and selection of books in the place is unsurpassed. Coffee shop upstairs. Any book lover should stop at this place when passing on I-80. It’s just a few minutes off the interstate on Dubuque St. And it is set in a very appealing downtown area not far from the University of Iowa campus.          Before I left, I picked up a

On the last day of May, I began a long road-trip that would take me from South Bend, Indiana across the United States to La Jolla, California and then back. The purpose of my trip was to attend the graduation of one of my granddaughters from UCSD. To get there, I decided to drive and visit several independent bookstores along the way. I took a stack of my books with me and, by way of introduction, gave one to the representative of the bookstores that I visited. In addition to placing my book, “The Dark Narcs,” in some great indie bookstores, I had the pleasure of browsing the shelves and buying something for myself. May 31, 2022 I left South Bend early on I-80 to I-294 to I-88 and finally to US 30 that took me across the Mississippi River into Iowa at Clinton. From there I went north along the Mississippi to Bellevue, Iowa and the Bookworm Bookstore on the main street there.  Bookworm Bookstore, Bellevue, Iowa This is a charming little store packed with interesting books of qui

May 26, 2022. Had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of Kathy, the owner (Book Dean) of Brain Lair Books in South Bend, IN. It is an indie bookstore focusing on children's and young adult literature. In particular, she carefully selects that written by and for the "underrepresented voices." It is a "bookstore dedicated to developing empathy and building a community centered around the discussion of inclusive books, and fun." It is a cozy place with a welcoming feel. I am pleased that Kathy now has "The Dark Narcs" in her store.

The book has been out for a month and it is being very well received so far. Available on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/1953294251 . Also Barnes and Noble online and your local booksellers. Crime fiction and police procedural fans will appreciate the street action, the investigative procedures and the real-life feel of the dialogue. The essence of good police work is unselfish teamwork and that is a big part of this story as well.
The Dark Narcs  Paperback – April 5, 2022  by   Paul Mahoney     (Author) The year is 1987, and the city of Denver is being ravaged by a rash of summer violence associated with street drug-dealing seldom before experienced. The dark narcs are a four-man team of street narcotics detectives, two Black and two white, assigned to the night shift. They are right in the middle of it all, including being targeted for murder themselves, and are challenged to put an end to it. Through their investigations they identify the dealers responsible and attempt to put them out of business and stop the shootings and murders—five drug-related homicides in the span of ten days and two other shootings in which the victims survived. An aggressive police response to citizen demands for action in their community in the context of racial concerns, stringent legal guidelines, and immediate threats to public safety has become crucial, resulting in a jolting conclusion to the threatening criminal enterprise. -
